Rukus and New Balance Numeric Reveal 440 “Voodoo Doll” Collab

Ronnie Saurage-owned, Baton Rouge-based skate shop, Rukus, has announced a collaboration with New Balance Numeric, the footwear brand’s dedicated skate line.

The collab, dubbed the “Voodoo Doll,” visits the New Balance Numeric 440 silhouette, with design elements that pay tribute to the rich cultural history of Voodoo in Louisiana — a practice that dates back to the 18th century.

Notably, the pair features a variety of nods to the technique, including a woven burlap upper base layer, panels of rough suede on the upper and tack-stitched details. On the lateral side of the shoes, the classic “N” logo can be found in premium red pebble leather, while on the medial side, it’s simply outlined via tack-stitching, a work in progress, reminiscent of a Voodoo doll’s construction.

Other details include a singular sewed button on each of the shoes, a nod to the doll’s eyes, as well as a throwback 103 mark on the inside tag and heels and a special burlap bag which presumably comes with the plush Voodoo doll featured in the shoot. Additional details include co-branding at the tongue, inspired insoles and a paisley pattern finish on the sock liner.

Retail pricing for the Rukus x New Balance Numeric 440 has yet to be announced at the time of writing, however, it is expected to be released on December 1, at a pop-up shop inside Perkins Rowe in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
