Tiger Woods may have only worn the Nike Tiger Woods ’13 for a little over two years, but the impact of the running-inspired golf shoes when they first appeared in 2012 was so great that it redefined the industry’s outlook on footwear. As a young man who dreamed of being a Navy Seal, Tiger Woods introduced the concept of performance training to golf, and that trickled down to how players presented themselves on tour. The idea made a lot of sense at face value. Why shouldn’t a golf shoe place comfort at the forefront? Why shouldn’t it feel like a sneaker that you’d wear on an average day?
It only made sense that the first Tiger Woods retro shoe would be this one, and since the initial re-release in February we’ve seen a few different colorways. Now official images have surfaced of a “Masters” edition where pine green features on the midsole, outsole and insoles. Comparing these to the standard white version that Tiger often wore between 2012-2014, cool grey accents outline the tongue rather than off-white, yellow eyelets harness the “Masters” theme and the stripe on the heel is white instead of black.
As one can expect from Nike Free technology, the outsole mimics the natural movements of the foot, maintaining contact with the ground for longer and allowing for better energy transfer in theory.
Should you be looking to secure a pair, set a reminder for December 8 at 10AM EST and check on Nike and retailers like Carl’s Golfland, Golfposer and Function18.
