After seven years, Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz have finally dropped off their highly-anticipated joint sequel, Welcome 2 ColleGrove.
Clocking in at almost an hour, the 21-track effort includes guest appearances from 21 Savage on “Big Diamonds,” Usher on “Transparency,” Fabolous on “PPA,” Benny the Butcher on “Oprah and Gayle,” Vory on “Godzilla,” Rick Ross on “Can’t Believe You” and Marsha Ambrosius on the closer “Moonlight.” Welcome 2 ColleGrove finally features Weezy as a co-lead artist after its 2016 predecessor could only credit 2 Chainz due to label issues, and the duo’s chemistry is as electric as ever. Throughout the album, it’s evident that they honor each other by delivering their best with every track, and their strong sense of respect for each other translates to a stellar listening experience for fans.
“We’ve been working on it for some time, had a lot of clearance issues, but for the most part we’re two hardworking individuals who go in the studio every night,” 2 Chainz said in a previous Apple Music interview. “So, I don’t think it was hard recording the music. It just was a process of getting the music out to the people.”
He comtinued, “I think me and him just have that chemistry. We enjoy working with each other a lot, and it’s a lot of respect there. And as I always say, still sharpen still. So, it’s always that little piece of anxiety of knowing that I got to this verse has to be better than the last one. I think it’s healthy. I think competition is healthy in any and everything that we do.”
