She’s a lady in red.
Kate Middleton delivered some royal glamour in a bright red cape and oversized hat as she kicked off day one of the UK’s state visit with South Korea’s president Tuesday, with the princess putting a new spin on an old look for the occasion.
Although the temperature was a mild 51 degrees in London, the Princess of Wales, 41, bundled up in a red cape over the same wool Catherine Walker coat dress she wore to her 2021 Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey.
She adjusted the bow of her coat to stick out over her voluminous cape, wearing the double layers over a bright red dress that showed off a hint of leg as she got out of the car.
Middleton also owns a black version of the same bow coat, which she wore to Prince Philip’s funeral in 2021 and to another memorial event for the late Queen Elizabeth II ahead of her 2022 funeral.
The mom of three wore her hair in an elaborate updo, sporting the late Princess Diana’s sapphire-and-diamond drop earrings that she paired with a bold purple suit last week.
The Princess of Wales carried the same Miu Miu bow-trimmed bag that she brought to her 2021 carol concert, adding red Gianvito Rossi suede heels and topping her look off with a wide-brimmed hat that matched her caped look.

Her monochromatic look was not only festive for the upcoming holiday season, but it holds a special meaning for this week’s visit, as the South Korean flag contains the same scarlet hue as her outfit.
Fans had mixed opinion on the caped ensemble, like one Instagram user who commented on Kate Middleton Styled’s Instagram account, “I like this look better when she wore it at the carol service…it looks too much with the extra layer on top…but she still looks beautiful.”
“NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION‼️ 🤣 Just my first thought🤣📷” one Instagram user joked, adding side-by-side photos of the Princess of Wales and a red-robed character from the famous Monty Python “Spanish Inquisition” sketch.
Others were into it, like one Twitter user who wrote, “Princess Catherine The Princess of Wales is on fire Today she looks like a film star” and another who added, “Powerful lady in red! I don’t know about you, but I’m loving the drama of the Princess of Wales’ cape.”
Stay tuned for more royal fashion to come as the Princess of Wales joins the rest of the family with a glittering state banquet Tuesday evening.
