We all know that Kyrie Irving is a once-in-a-generation box office type of a hooper, but it’s no secret that he’s stirred up a severe amount of controversy in recent years over his alleged mood swings and unwillingness to become vaccinated against COVID-19. And according to a report by ESPN, Irving’s uncertainty around his professional playing career has made Nike think about severing ties with the shifty point guard following the 2022-2023 season.
Irving has been a member of the Swoosh family since 2014 and has brought in a significant amount of revenue and energy to the brand with his signature shoe line. The one-time champion has built up one of the most coveted catalogs in Nike Basketball history as he’s introduced collaborations with the likes of Concepts, Kobe Bryant, Sue Bird, Sneaker Room and more. However, he also has had a few hiccups with the brand, the most recent being over his Kyrie Infinity silhouette as he called the design “trash” and claimed that Nike was going to launch the sneaker without making any edits and without his approval.
The perennial All-Star is still expected to release another signature offering with the brand, but only time will tell if his contract gets renewed. The full story can be seen here.
In case you missed it, official images of the Nike LeBron 9 “Regal Pink” have emerged.
