Gucci is slowly but surely becoming a collaborative incubator, and now it aims to champion “top design and artistic talent” in a new Gucci Vault range, titled “Continuum.” First up: Vans.
The “Continuum” range sees Rave Review, EGONlab, Alice Pons, Hodakova, Collina Strada, Alpha Industries x Slam Jam, and Vans each work with archival Gucci materials and transform the fabrics into limited-edition creations informed by the respective brand’s identities. For Vans, this culminates on the Old Skool, Slip-On, and OG Mule.
For its collaborative collection, Vans uses a range of contemporary archive materials gathered from Alessandro Michele‘s collections for the Italian House. Each silhouette follows the footwear giant’s “Customade for You” line, which allows customers to supply Vans with their own fabrics or an old garment and see it turned into a pair of shoes, as well as Gucci’s iconic identity, in turn revealing pairs that might stand as the most unique Vans around.
Kicking things off is the OG Old Skool, appearing in metal-studded black leather on the toe and heel, a floral canvas for the mid-panels, another floral design on the medial side, and variations of gingham checkered prints on the eyestay placket and tongue, here too also studded.
Yellow checker-stitched leather and floral canvas combine with studs on a Slip-On, while other Slip-On styles opt for pink and red leather, or a black and gold-white hued design. As for the OG Mule, Vans repurposes fabrics from the Gucci Pre-Fall 2017 collection, notably equipping the style in a patchwork of floral designs. Rounding this pair out is a plush green velvet trim, while all five sneakers are printed with dual Gucci Vault and Vans branding on the insoles.
Prices range from £220 GBP to £285 GBP ($290 USD-$380 USD) and can be bought exclusively via Gucci Vault now.
