For Houston-raised designer, Bach Mai, haute couture styling is not just a passion, but a lifestyle. A lifestyle, which has led his studies and experiences everywhere from Houston, Texas to Paris and New York City, where his eponymous label resides. As such, Mai has a deep understanding of allure balanced by glamour and wearability. So to cultivate his SS24 collection, the designer offered up a manifestation of movement.
Couture is made to measure. Couture is unique. Couture is fanciful. Couture has movement. But as Bach Mai technically makes ready-to-wear garments, his design chops sensibilities teeter between the two fields, which makes for an appetizing arrangement. For this season, the collection discussion of movement meandered throughout flowing dresses, warped and folded textures, layered tulle overlays and simply decadent draping.
But what brought the vision of varied design techniques alive was Mai’s celebration of life and his late father. As such, dresses were lived by lotus flower prints, additional floral prints, subtle cargo detailing, rich crystal textures, silk fabrics and subtle lace overlays – all with an overwhelming commitment to pure elegance.
